Glasgow - Edinburgh Challenge  [29-June-2011]  New   The Glasgow - Edinburgh Challenge usually takes place in April each year and involves, strangely enough, paddling from Glasgow to Edinburgh! This year its been moved to October, over the weekend of 8th and 9th. More details nearer the time but the club have won this event numerous times in the past. AO

Next Paddle  [29-June-2011]   You may have noticed that July seems pretty quiet regarding trips - traditionally the summer has always been quiet with members away on holiday etc etc. Gair is planning a few Thursday evening sessions for beginners on local rivers, get in touch with Gair directly.  Once I come back from my summer hols, I'll be assisting in that activity. You can let me know if you are interested too. AO

Club Blog  [26-April-2011]  Please have a look at the new Club Blog - let me know what you think - its accessible from either the menu or the links page.  AO

Next Paddle  [26-April-2011]   You may have noticed the next event on the calendar is 8 May at Forfar Loch - its primarily for Duke of Edinburgh's Award paddlers but the wider club membership is welcome - start about 10.00 until about 4.00 pm and at a cost for equipment hire of £5.  I'm looking for additional coach / adult help as the most I can take on the water by myself is 6 !!  Let me know if you are interested. AO

The Great Outdoors  [28-March-2011]  Thanks to all those who attended - a great time had by all.  I'll put up the photo's soon - its a busy time of year for me!! AO

Glasgow - Edinburgh Challenge  [14-February-2011]  The Glasgow - Edinburgh Challenge usually takes place in April each year and involves, strangely enough, paddling from Glasgow to Edinburgh! This year its been moved to October. More details nearer the time but the club have won this event numerous times in the past. AO

Year Planner  [14-February-2011] I'm going to change the format of the Year Planner page - hopefully it will be an improvement! Let me know what you think?  AO

Racing Success  [5-March-2011]  Club member Colin Tannock took part in a white water race recently, the Tay Races 2011. Colin achieved a very creditable 2nd place amongst a "youthful" field. Follow this link and scroll to the bottom of the page to see Colin in action.  AO

Move to the Great Outdoors  [5-March-2011]  The first outdoor event of 2011 is planned on being a trip to Monikie Country Park on 27 March. An indication of numbers would be helpful as soon as possible - showers, tea, coffee etc will be available on the day.  The event is still in the planning stages, but a small charge will be necessary to pay the launch fees. AO

Pool Session Cancellation [14-February-2011] The pool Session for 27th February is cancelled - sorry, but there is a swimming gala on that evening.  AO

Pool Sessions  [18-November-2010]
The current round of pool sessions kicked off last  Sunday (31st October) with both junior and adult sessions attended.  Coaches were on hand to put you through your paces and see how much some of you remembered from last years pool sessions. When applying for the pool let from Angus Council, it became apparent that the fees charged to the club had been increased over the summer break. Unfortunately, the club committee felt they had little choice but to pass a proportion of that increase to members. This has resulted in the junior pool fee increasing to £3 and the adult pool fee increasing to £4. Historically, the pool sessions have never been about making money, all we have tried to do is break even. This will be even more difficult to achieve now. AO

Angus Canoe Club AGM  [3-Novemer-2010]
The club AGM is due on 18 November, and has been booked for 7.30pm in the Caledonian Hotel in Brechin. Download the agenda here ... and get the date into your diary now! AO

Highland Marathon  [17-October-2010]
Club members Alan O'Neill and Pete Ritchie took part in the final Highland Marathon race from Maryculter to Aberdeen Boat Club, on the River Dee. Entered into the "Master" class, the pair took an early lead.  Unfortunately, they were ovetaken by two "racing open canoes" decked out in "Royalex".  Trying to keep the comparatively heavy plastic Explorer 16 up with the Intrigue 15 soon took its toll and the pair never overtook the lightweight boats again, finishing just yards behind them to take second place AO

Foundation Safety and Rescue Training  [1-October-2010]
The FSRT course ran successfully on 26 September.  Have a look at the FSRT Photo Gallery to see how everyone got on!. AO

Tay Descent  [17-October-2010]
No-one can have failed to see the Tay Descent advertised by now, can they? Visit Canoe Scotland to find out more about the Tay Descent and Paddle 2010. AO

Commander Collins Bursary  [1-October-2010]
After about 16 months in the running, the Commander Collins Bursary has finally been used up!  A number of club coaches benefitted from the bursary and a fuller report can be found in the October Newsletter. AO

Club members Alan O'Neill and Iain Taylor both attended the SCA Coaching Conference over the weekend of 10-12 September.  This was to update both members coaching qualifications.  Coaching Updates are a mandatory requirement of SCA membership and are to be completed within a 3 year period.  AO

4 Star Leader Course  [6-July-2010]
A 4 Star Leader course is being run by our "old" friend and fellow paddler, Jim Gibson, up on the River Spey.  The course runs 18-19th September.  If you are interested, please email Steve in the first instance.  Remember, there is some funding available (50% of course cost) if you are already a coach and wish to take part.  AO

Foundation Safety and Rescue Training  [7-August-2010]
The postponed FSRT has been rescheduled for 26 September.  there are further details in Augusts Keep Paddling.  If you are interested, please email me or Steve asap.  We need numbers before we can progress the organisation.  There will be a small cost, but this is an essential course for all paddlers.  The course has been registered with the SCA so you will be certificated. One of the pool kayaks, a black Topolino, has gone missing - have you seen it?  Its quite large and is completely black.  If you have seen it, please email myself or SteveAO

Awards For All Success  [3-June-2010]
The club committee recently submitted an application to Awards For All for a grant to purchase some open canoe equipment.  Guess what?  The application has been successful!  The order will be complete any day now.  Once it is all available, we'll get it picked up and then prepared for use. AO

Club Weekend 4 - 6 June  [3-June-2010]
The water levels look very low for the Club Weekend, this weekend.  None the less, the trip goes ahead with the sea as a backup option.  Our base will be the Loch Park bunkhouse, and the planned main activities will be 1. Open canoe trip on the Spey; 2. Intermediate kayak trip on the Findhorn; 3. Novice white water skills on the Spey.  The bunkhouse offers a variety of accomodations, check out the web site.  Expressions of interest to Jen, please, the co-ordinator of the trip.  AO

Club Open Canoe Trailer  [11-May-2010]
New trailer behind carNew trailer loaded on its own

As some of you know, the club recently purchased a new trailer - specifically for open canoes.  The trailer had its first outing yesterday (to Forfar Loch) carrying 4 open canoes.  Trailer handled fine and I'm sure it will prove to be a valuable asset for the club.  On the same note, the committee are working hard to get a kayak trailer too.  Watch this space! AO.

Newsletter - May Edition  [10-May-2010]
I had hoped to publish the next edition of Keep Paddling, the club newsletter in April.  Unfortunately, due to circumstances that will be fully reported on in the May edition, I've not been able to do that.  AO

Monikie Madness  [20-April-2010]
Thanks to all who supported Monikie Madness (first outdoor trip of the year) - a successful day by any account.  Have a look at some of the photos in the photo gallery. Thanks again. AO.

Highland Series 1 [12-April-10] the first event in this years Highland Marathon Series took place between Delnapot and Aberlour on the RiverPaddlers at start of race Spey - Angus Canoe Club were represented by club chairman, Alan O'Neill, and founder member Pete Ritchie. The event can be paddled in any craft and our duo completed the 10 mile course in an open canoe taking in rapids such as "Washing Machine" and "Knockando".  A successful trip, fantastic weather - the only downer was that the entrants had to register in the Master class - something to do with being over 45?  AO

Isla Mouth Car Park Closed [2-April-10] A sad day for all of us that use this regularly.
